Our Prayer Life

samuel chadwick quote

“It is a good thing to let prayer be the first business of the morning and the last business of the evening”….. Martin Luther King

How is your prayer life? Hmmm, would you say “I pray daily, several times a day, occasionally, only at church?” Praying is having a conversation with God, did you know that or did you think that praying was just asking for this or that? During our conversation the “two way” conversation, the Lord wants some quiet time with us, no matter where you pray or have a walk, sitting in your swing or whatever it is that is relaxing to you.  Stop and listen for the Lord to speak, he has things he would like to say. Recently, through a ladies retreat I attended, I realized that my prayer life needed some work..

You see I prayed daily, sometimes several times a day, before each meal, when a prayer request came in on our prayer chain, etc. But, that wasn’t necessarily what God wanted from me. In prayer you are stepping out in faith usually asking for things.  FAITH is a PERSON (JESUS) – you see we cannot hinge on our own faith, we have to hinge on HIS faith.  Only HIS faith is perfect and it is HIS faith that is ours. We must trust him, he believes in us. Remember that prayer cannot be substituted by good works and the most meaningful prayer comes from the heart of the one that has faith and trust in God.

Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints – We must pray always because we cannot win without God’s help. We must be watchful as God does not give victory without full commitment – Supplication we must pray for other believers

Spirit Intercedes: Romans 8:26 The Spirit helps in our weaknesses.  For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. The Spirit prays to the Father for us, the Spirit knows what’s on our heart “groanings from our heart” is what the Spirit prays to the Father.  So you see even in times of despair and we are at a loss for words – PRAY.  You may not be sure what to pray, but the HOLY SPIRIT knows and will intercede for you. What a MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!

Power of prayer: James 5:16 the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man AVAILS much. Acts 4:31 when the disciples prayed the building around them shook and they were filled with the Holy Spirit & spoke God’s word with Boldness. Numbers 11:2 The people cried out to Moses and when he prayed to the Lord, the fire was quenched. In James when the righteous man prays he Avails much – he will have the power through Jesus Christ to prevail.  In Acts the building around them shook, have you ever prayed and the building shook?  Could you imagine, that shows how powerful prayer can be.  It says that the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke God’s word with BOLDNESS.  I can only imagine how spirit filled they were.  You see if we can get our prayer life in order, and give God the time he needs from us.  We can experience the power of prayer.  They spoke with boldness, what would you do if during your prayer your home shook and you knew it was from your prayer?  Suppose you had lost your eyesight and you prayed for it to be restored and it was. Wouldn’t you want to shout from the roof tops and you would be so full of the spirit, it would be contagious.  Friends, this is how we are supposed to be all times.  Just because we may not have the building shake or something happen right in that moment that we physically experience, that doesn’t mean God is not working in your life.  Give HIM all the glory, honor and praise.  God is all knowing and all powerful, nothing can overcome Him.  He is definitely who I want to be praying too.

Matthew 6:6  When you pray, go into your room, shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. If you don’t have a special “room” for your praying time, select a special place in your home where you know it will be quiet and secret.  This is a time for spending time with our precious Savior. The Lord doesn’t reject public prayer, but public prayers are not a time to gain attention to the one who prays.

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. The next time you pray, draw near to Him and be quiet, listen for what He has to say to you. He is always ready to hear our prayers.  The part of the scripture that says “you double-minded” that refers to the Christians that that are divided in their heart between God and the world.  The purifying cleanses us from the evil deeds and wicked intentions that lie in our hearts. Our flesh harbors wicked intentions and that is why we must die to ourselves daily and let the Lord live through us.

Psalm 55:17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.  The Psalmist says here morning, noon and evening he will pray.. How many of us give the Lord that much time in one day?  He gave us HIS LIFE.  Daniel 6:10  Daniel went to his upper room he knelt down three times that day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom in early days. You see Daniel wasn’t concealing his prayers, he was giving God his all in his times of prayer.  No television, phones, errands or whatever… God needs our whole mind, body & spirit in prayer with HIM and not with just a part of us because 90 things are going on in your home at once. Acts 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to the prayer and the ministry of the word. This is continually praying, sure that doesn’t mean every moment of the day, but you need to make sure you are giving God the appropriate prayer time, praying consistently. When you pray, the Lord fills you.  This is the fulfillment that allows you keep your focus day to day.

Luke 22:40-46 He said to them “Pray that you may not enter into temptation” vs41 he withdrew from the disciples about a stones thrown and HE (Jesus) knelt and prayed vs 42 “Father if it is YOUR will, take this cup away from ME; nevertheless not My will, but Yours be done. Vs 44 He prayed earnestly vs 46 He said “why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation. Twice in these few scriptures it is said pray that you don’t enter into temptation.  You see when we don’t stay “prayed up” you are more likely to fall into that temptation trap.  You must keep yourself strong in the Lord, in his word, through prayer and circumstances.  The more you give yourself to the Lord, in prayer and his word, the more the devil is going to come at you.  If you noticed in vs 40 it states Jesus knelt….. Jesus, our Savior, Redeemer, King of Kings knelt in prayer!! Why can’t we kneel in prayer, why can’t we even pray effectively, continuously and in the quiet, secret place?  We allow too many worldly things to distract us and keep us from staying on our knees.

These thoughts on prayers ended being much longer than I had expected and maybe I should have broken it into several parts, but I hope that you gained something from this read.  I have learned so much in such a short period of time doing the “Thought” talks.  I don’t call them devotions because I don’t think I am anywhere near equipped to be presenting devotions.  I thank the Good Lord above for all he has done for me.

Love in Christ,

First blog post

First blog post

I’m not a bible scholar, Sunday school teacher or anything other than a housewife that Loves the Lord.  My hopes for this blog is to help others with an uplifting word or a path to find Jesus.  We all need Jesus in our life.  If you don’t know Christ, please message me and I will help you.  I hope you all receive a blessing from this, as much as it blesses me to put it online for you.

Are We willing to Pay the Price

Are you willing to pay the Cost?

Following Christ and doing his will, is not the easy road nor is it supposed to be.  You see Christ suffered an awful death for US! All of US! Obedience to God often comes at a cost, are we prepared for that cost? Would we really endure the cost of obedience? Let’s look at Paul in 2 Corinthians 11: 23-33 – Paul was beaten five times receiving 39 lashes, beaten with rods, stoned, ship wrecked, endured sleeplessness, nakedness, cold, hunger and thirst, along with many other things.  Let’s just look at what is listed.  Yes, many have been beaten for their faith in the Lord Jesus, but have we endured anything close to what Paul paid for his obedience?  I would dare say that none of us, have.  Yet, we still find it so hard to show obedience to the Lord, why is it? Is it because our Saturday night friends might be shocked that we even go to church? Is it because our actions don’t speak of someone that is serving the Lord? Is it because the Good Lord doesn’t have control over our entire life? Is it because “well on Sundays I rest that day and don’t feel like going to church?” Well, let’s look at this….. Being obedient to Christ is more than going to church on Sunday, but what if Jesus said “no I’m too tired to die for their sins today, I’ll catch them next week?” and then next week never comes because we always have something else to do when it comes time for worship? How would we feel if we had no hope of eternity because Jesus was too tired to do for us, but yet we can’t do some of the smallest things for Him. Our chuch is doing an Experiencing God study and I have gotten so much out of it.  I’ve seen where I’m so short of serving God fully.  People, lets understand that Christ is there waiting for you to take the invitation to serve him.  No matter if you’re a born again Christian that has fallen away or someone that has never known Jesus.  Regardless what your past is, where you think you may be, or how much time you think you may have…. WE are not promised tomorrow! I can speak 1st hand of that, a subject I don’t mention a lot.  Dec 23, 2007 the Lord chose to take my baby brother from this earth, we don’t know why, it was Christmas time and man did that ever make things so much harder.  He left behind a 7 year old son and a wife, not to mention his parents and 2 siblings.  I don’t think for a moment that when my brother got up that morning to go hunting, he ever had an inkling it would be the last time he would come home to his family.  So, when I tell you tomorrow is not promised I know from 1st hand experience.  Don’t wait, if the Lord is calling you to do something, STAND UP, BE BOLD, BE THE LIGHT, TAKE HIS INVITATION TO LET HIM HAVE YOU FULLY AND WORK THROUGH YOU.

Happy Tuesday!

Scales over our Eyes

First Blog EVER, please bear with me…….. I send all thoughts with much LOVE!

Do we have Scales on our Eyes?

In Acts 9:3-6

Christ confronts Saul for persecuting his disciples and takes his vision for 3 days.  Saul falls to the ground and ask “Lord, what do You want me to do? Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.”

Acts 9:17-18

The Lord sends Ananias to Saul. “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Vs18: Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.

Christ confronted Saul for persecuting him, he took his vision for 3 days.  Then he sends Ananias to restore Saul’s sight and he was filled with the Holy Spirit.

You see Saul thought Christ was an imposter and he was persecuting his disciples.  But the Lord got his attention on the road to Damascus and he allowed his eyes to be covered with something like scales. From that moment Saul knew that Christ wasn’t an imposter. Again, he knew it was Christ when HE sent Ananias to place his hand on him and “something like scales” fell from his eyes.  Is this the way we are? We know Christ but we still have the scales on our eyes because we haven’t asked the Lord “what do YOU want me to do?” Are we afraid of what the Lord may ask us to do? Often we sinners, and yes we are all sinners; find ourselves wanting do to for the Lord but not outside our comfort zone.  This isn’t what God wants, he wants us to step outside our comfort zone and seek his word and join him. Ask the Lord to help you remove scales and you will be able to see where the Lord is working and you can join him in his work.  You see he is already at work around you, he’s inviting you to join him.  Happy Monday Friends, if you took the time to read this I hope you receive a blessing from it and thank you.  Love you all!

Loving Others

You have heard that it was said. “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. That you may be sons of your Father in Heaven Matt 5:43-45
Do we really practice this? I know myself, I struggle with this. None of us will ever go through what Jesus did and yet he still loved his persecutors and prayed for them. I often encounter different situations in my own life, and instead of getting upset or my feelings hurt, I need to pray for those that I feel are doing this. I need to show them love, for love comes from God. Maybe we can make a difference in their life, if nothing else let them see Jesus in you. Happy Friday friends, I had to share with hopes that this will impress on your heart as it has mine. Love you all.
